By the way, Skype rules
Where would I be without Skype?  Well, I’d basically be in the same place I currently am, but with a way bigger phone bill.  At least so far on this trip, Skype has been my only voice communication with the USA.  It works great.  And who can argue with $0.021 a minute?

Even cooler, on the Mac I’m able to use my Treo branded Bluetooth headset to talk on Skype.  So, my laptop sits on the desk and I sit or stand comfortably nearby and chat with excellent sound quality.  Damned cool.

Speaking of the laptop, the AirPort Express I bought before I left for China has been worth every cent.  Our hotel has broadband, but not WiFi.  I had the AP Express set up from the box to a private, WPA2-protected network in 3 minutes flat.  Not bad.  Since my hotel stay here will be 2-1/2 weeks, it’s awfully nice to have no tether.

(Pretty sweet hotel room, right?)
