We had a break from the factory yesterday (Sunday), so Bruce and Deliah and I took a trip to Shanghai for some shopping and sightseeing.
I’m amazed by what a booming industry counterfeit goods are. I didn’t keep count, but I would estimate that I was offered a fake Rolex approximately 20 times. Some folks were more diversified and offered Omega as well. They’re not even good fakes. Also saw some amazingly bad iPod knockoffs see China Part 2.
I hate to admit it, but at my request we had lunch at McDonald’s. I just had to have a Western-style lunch. McD’s didn’t disappoint. A Big Mac is the same the whole world ’round.
We spent the afternoon on Nanjing road. This is the huge shopping area of Shanghai, probably 2 miles of shops big and small, and as crowded as a rock concert. I had been warned to beware of pickpockets, and was pleased to return to the hotel with all that I started out with.
We opted not to stay in Shanghai for dinner. We were tired, the air quality was staggeringly bad, and it was starting to get really windy. So, I had dinner at the hotel, and I must say it was one of the best steaks I’ve ever eaten. I’m kicking myself for leaving the camera in my room, because the presentation was a knockout. If you ever stay at the Tongli Lakeview Hotel, get the Australian Beef Tenderloin at the Ziga Zaga.
